of more than 30 investigators, students and paraecologists from both Costa Rica and the United States. The network is opening pathways to understanding the relevance of microbial communities to macroorganismal biology and strengthening the Costa Rica-US 
collaboration, through joint activities and training of Costa Rican and US undergraduate and graduate students. Field collections are conducted by Costa Rican resident paraecologists, successfully trained by MOCAT investigators in the basics of microbiology. Research results are part of the ACG programs for educational outreach of thousands of elementary and high school students and their instructors.MOCAT is logistically based on an international and interdisciplinary network of more than 30 investigators, students and paraecologists from both Costa Rica and the United States.
